R&D coacht DRV Baden-Wuerttemberg

The German Pension Insurance (DRV) Baden-Württemberg, headquartered in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart with regional centers throughout Baden-Württemberg, has been using an Identity & Access Management (IAM) solution based on the Micro Focus NetIQ Identity Manager for many years to manage the identities and access rights of its 3,800 employees. The IT department of DRV Baden-Württemberg was thus very early in aligning its operations with process automation while observing data protection. However, due to legal and regulatory requirements, new data protection regulations, changes in personnel processes, the introduction of new IT systems, and internal organizational changes, the demands on this solution have constantly evolved. This means that since its implementation in 2007, the IAM solution’s functionality had to be continuously adapted or expanded by the IT department of DRV Baden-Württemberg.

Many of these adaptations or enhancements were carried out by DRV Baden-Württemberg itself. Its IT specialists were involved in the IAM project from the very beginning—which initially started with external support—and have built up extensive know-how of the Micro Focus NetIQ Identity Manager over the years. Today, an internal IAM team is responsible for maintaining the IAM system within DRV Baden-Württemberg’s IT. However, even for this IAM team, there are limits when it comes to new developments. Connecting additional systems to the Identity & Access Management or implementing new features is highly complex and would require a significant amount of training if DRV Baden-Württemberg were to handle this alone without assistance.

This is where Ruhloff & Dauner comes in. The Stuttgart-based IT service provider specializes in Identity & Access Management and has a team of experienced IAM consultants who are always up to date with the latest versions of the Micro Focus NetIQ Identity Manager and familiar with all new features. Ruhloff & Dauner can either design and implement complete IAM projects for its clients or, as in the case of DRV Baden-Württemberg, coach clients in carrying out the developments themselves.

The benefits of working with Ruhloff & Dauner are immense for DRV Baden-Württemberg. Thanks to the rapid knowledge transfer through IAM coaching, a significant time gain is achieved. Furthermore, Ruhloff & Dauner brings valuable experience from other projects, which is naturally incorporated into the coaching.

The IAM team at DRV Baden-Württemberg is also enthusiastic about the collaboration and reports:

In today’s IT landscape with its vast array of complex topics, it is crucial to stay ‘on the pulse of technology.’ Especially when staffing levels are limited, it is essential to have a competent partner like Ruhloff & Dauner at your side when dealing with an extensive topic like Identity & Access Management. Only then can it succeed.

At the start of the coaching last year, the focus was on the introduction of the User Application, a web-based application for implementing workflows. Further coaching sessions are planned this year, focusing on integrating systems via new connectors not previously in use at DRV Baden-Württemberg.

The German Pension Insurance Baden-Württemberg, as a statutory pension insurance provider, is the point of contact for around 6.9 million insured persons and more than 200,000 companies in the region and pays pensions to 1.5 million people in Germany and abroad.
