European Identity Conference (EIC) 2026: AI Transforms Identity & Access Management

02.06.2026

Opening keynote at the European Identity Conference 2026 in Berlin

With more than 1,500 attendees from over 40 countries, around 300 speakers, and more than 230 presentations and sessions, the European Identity & Cloud Conference (EIC) is one of Europe's leading events for Identity & Access Management (IAM), Identity Governance, and Cybersecurity. Once again, the 2026 conference in Berlin brought together leading analysts, software vendors, customers, and consultants to discuss the latest developments and the future of digital identity.

Of course, Ruhloff & Dauner was once again represented at this year's event. For many years, the EIC has been one of the most important conferences for us to gain new inspiration for our customer projects, exchange ideas with partners and software vendors, and gain valuable insights into the future development of the IAM market.

AI as the Dominant Topic at EIC 2026

After just the first few sessions, one thing became clear: Artificial Intelligence is no longer just another technology trend. It is now shaping the strategic direction of nearly every software vendor and analyst in the Identity & Access Management market. Hardly any keynote or technical session was without references to AI, Agentic AI, or AI Security. The central question was no longer whether AI will transform IAM, but how organizations can leverage these technologies securely, transparently, and responsibly.

The Future of Identity Security and Identity Fabric

One of the highlights of the conference was the opening keynote, "Identity Security: From Workforce to Everything", presented by Martin Kuppinger, Founder and Distinguished Analyst at KuppingerCole Analysts.

Kuppinger painted a compelling picture of how Identity Security will evolve over the coming years. He highlighted the following key developments:

  • Identity Security will extend far beyond workforce identities. Machines, IoT devices, cloud workloads, and autonomous AI agents will become first-class identities.
  • Identity Fabric, Cybersecurity Fabric, and AI Security Fabric will increasingly converge to form the foundation of modern security architectures.
  • AI Security and AI Identity will evolve into dedicated disciplines to securely govern AI agents and make their decisions transparent and traceable.
  • Identity will become the central trust anchor for enterprise-wide security.

For us, these developments confirm a trend we have already observed in many of our customer projects: Identity & Access Management is becoming an increasingly important pillar of modern enterprise security. As AI adoption continues to accelerate, this transformation is expected to gain even more momentum in the years ahead.

Artificial Intelligence in Identity & Access Management

Larry Chinski, Chief Strategy Officer at One Identity, provided a practical counterpoint with his engaging keynote, "Beyond the Buzz: The Real Role of AI in IAM."

While many discussions around AI are currently driven by enthusiasm, Chinski demonstrated where AI is already delivering tangible value in today's Identity & Access Management solutions.

Five key takeaways stood out to us in particular:

  • AI is becoming an integral part of modern IAM platforms, especially in risk analysis, Identity Lifecycle Management, and Access Governance.
  • Predictive AI and Generative AI serve different purposes and complement each other effectively within IAM environments.
  • AI can support administrators through Role Mining, access recommendations, and anomaly detection.
  • Security-critical decisions must remain transparent, auditable, and rule-based. Governance must not be replaced by black-box decision-making.
  • A successful IAM strategy will continue to rely on clearly defined processes and governance. AI is an intelligent assistant—not a replacement for proven security mechanisms.

Larry Chinski summarized this perspective perfectly:

AI will enhance your IAM platform, but it should not be the foundation of it.

We fully agree with this statement. AI offers tremendous potential to make IAM solutions smarter and more efficient. However, responsibility for access decisions and governance must continue to be based on transparent and traceable processes.

Networking in a Unique Atmosphere

In addition to the many technical presentations, EIC once again offered excellent opportunities for personal networking. One of the highlights was the traditional evening boat tour on the River Spree, providing the perfect setting to continue conversations with customers, partners, and IAM experts in a relaxed atmosphere.

Just as the boat departed, Berlin welcomed us with heavy rain. Fortunately, the weather improved as the evening progressed, allowing us to enjoy the impressive Berlin skyline and many of the city's famous landmarks from the open upper deck. Combined with numerous inspiring conversations, the boat tour once again became one of the memorable highlights of the conference.

Our Conclusion

The European Identity Conference 2026 clearly demonstrated that Artificial Intelligence will significantly shape the future of Identity & Access Management. AI will automate processes, support administrators, and unlock new opportunities for analytics, governance, and risk assessment.

At the same time, the conference also made it clear that governance, transparency, and traceable decision-making will remain the foundation of every successful IAM strategy. AI is a powerful enabler, but it cannot replace well-designed processes, clear responsibilities, or effective Identity Governance.

For us, EIC 2026 was once again an inspiring event filled with valuable insights and engaging conversations. We look forward to incorporating these learnings into our consulting projects and the continued development of our value-added solutions – the R&D RoleManager, the QuickIAM Access App, and the AD Analyzer.

We are already looking forward to the European Identity Conference 2027.
